SERVICES
Sensory Direct offers a range of services to identify practical solutions for people who have acquired sight or hearing loss and for
service providers.
Our aim is to offer a speedy, responsive and efficient service that allows you to get on with your life without delay.
Individual Prescriptions
We believe that everyone’s experience of sight or hearing loss is different and unique to them. For this reason we have developed the Individual Prescription service which is a consultation with one of our experienced team within 1-3 weeks of receiving your request. They will meet with you, either in your home, your workplace or in one of our consulting rooms, to go through the things that you are finding difficult as a result of your hearing or sight loss, and identify potential solutions. A written report outlining the practical solutions discussed during the consultation will be produced.
Examples of some practical solutions include:-
- simple adjustments where you or your family learn how to do things differently
- use of appropriate technology
- a comprehensive rehabilitation / teaching programme
Specialist Equipment
- Expert advice on specialist equipment
- Equipment demonstration centres
- Supply and installation services
- Try before you buy facility
- Home and work-based equipment assessments
Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation is a programme that teaches you, and those around you, strategies for coping with your sight or hearing loss. The aim is to help you to remain as independent as possible and maintain your chosen lifestyle. The length and content of each programme is tailor-made to your individual needs.
Support work
Some people will always need additional help to carry out certain tasks. Sensory Direct can provide regular support work staff who are trained, reliable and trustworthy. All of our staff have undergone the necessary police checks.
Tinnitus support
Tinnitus can be very stressful and exhausting to live with, particularly if it prevents a good night’s sleep. Many people benefit from Tinnitus therapy to help them with coping techniques. Our qualified Hearing Therapists can provide an assessment and therapy plan to suit your individual needs.

Specialist equipment
- You may have staff who have a sensory loss who could benefit from specialist equipment and support.
- You may want to make your premises or service more sensory friendly
- You may need help understanding or applying the reasonable adjustment clause of the Disability Discrimination Act
We can assess and arrange for provision of specialist equipment for all of the above.
Loop checker service
You may already have a loop system, but do you know how to use it properly or even to check it’s working. People often tell us about their irritation when they try to use the loop system advertised only to find that either it’s broken or staff don’t know how to operate it!
We can provide a regular loop checking service plus training for staff.
Service User Engagement
We believe that service users should play an active role in evaluating and shaping services. If your organisation would like to encourage more active user participation, we can be commissioned to carry out service user engagement on your behalf.
